What is it that makes Bryggen so special? What significance does it hold for all the people from different backgrounds that come to visit every year? Is this cultural heritage site self-explanatory?

Of course not! We need to communicate and disseminate its history. We have to show people its distinctive qualities, communicate what significance this cultural heritage site has for our identity, and tell them about its history. We have to show them what will be lost if we do not take good care of Bryggen, and we have to create an understanding why large resources are being devoted to restoring the site, and to disseminating all the stories that have been dug up from the ground beneath its buildings. Luckily, there are many who wish to illuminate different aspects of Bryggen’s long and exciting history, through research, articles, exhibitions and guided tours.
