Bryggen in Bergen is being saved! This unique cultural heritage site is finally receiving the financial attention it deserves – and is now being restored in such a way that ordinary maintenance will be sufficient. The Bryggen Project hopes to reach this goal by the year 2030. The project is comprised of a number of organisations who are using their different fields of expertise to preserve both the buildings and the cultural deposits beneath them. The buildings and their cultural deposits are both part of this unique cultural heritage site, but different strategies will have to be employed in order to restore them to satisfactory conditions. Furthermore, the abundant waters of Bryggen are both a blessing and a curse, and create a set of unique challenges.
